In 1878 anyone living in what is now the Te Puke area would have been listed in the Maketu postal area, so these people may not neccesarily have been living at Maketu village.

In May 2006, I received the following email:

I have been checking out these pages on your site maketu1875-76.html and maketu1878.html

I am very interested in how you sourced this info. You see there was a place in Ramarama, located Franklin district or Auckland district depending on who you talk to that was called Maketu or Te Maketu, the name was apparently changed as mail was always getting confused with the other Maketu BOP.

On these lists there is some surnames of some early settlers to Maketu, Ramarama area. I am wondering if this could be a confusion of the two Maketu's ??

Names are : Hugh Donahoe( Spelling here various), Pratt, Cummings, McCabe.

I am researching some of the above families, so If I could resolve this it may help with my background research.
Kind Regards
Del Saunders

See also TE MAKETU.

This list of names came from the Auckland Provincial Directory under Maketu and they may have got confused with the two Maketu's. I will leave the names as per the directory but please be aware of this.
