Nurses on transports which arrived in Auckland last week:
GRIGOR, Sister Mary, ARRS, of Scotland, who was Matron in Charge on the voyage, has a noteworthy record of service. She left NZ on 21 May 1915 and for a time was engaged on transport and hospital ships running between Gallipoli Peninsula and Egypt. After a short period of hospital duty in Egypt she was attached to the staff which was being transported on the Marquette on her ill-fated trip. After the mishap she was conveyed to Alexandria and subsequently to England where she has been attached to the staff of the Walton on Thames Hospital for 17 months. She is an Associate of the Royal Red Cross.
HOOPER, Nurse E, of Wakefield, Nelson, left NZ with the hospital ship Maheno and was attached to a hospital in Egypt. Subsequently she was on the staff of the Brockenhurst Hospital.
MARTYN, Nurse E M of Gordon Road, Mt Eden, has been engaged in hospital work in Egypt and England for 2 ½ years. Latterly she was attached to the staff of the Walton on Thames Hospital.
SHIRLEY, Miss M of Napier, who was in England at the outbreak of war, joined the staff of the NZ Nursing Service about a year ago. She came out on duty as masseuse and was assisted by Miss A HOWELL.
OFFICERS OF THE WAIRUNA
The head office of the Union Steam Ship Company is advised that Captain SAUNDERS and officers of the Wairuna are prisoners of war at Karlsruhe. They can be communicated with through the London office of the Red Cross Society. The place of internment of the crew is not mentioned in the cablegram.

ON ACTIVE SERVICE — Recent Promotions
O’NEILL, Lt Col E J, DSO, NZMC, who has been officer commanding at the NZ Stationary Hospital in France, has been appointed officer commanding at Walton, in place of Lt Col T MILL, CMG, who is seconded for duty to NZ.
NEWTON, Lt Col C T H, NZMC, who has been officer commanding a NZ Mounted Field Ambulance, has been appointed officer commanding NZ Stationary Hospital and Major R H WALTON has been appointed Colonel Newton’s successor at the Field Ambulance.

Forces on the Egyptian Front
MACKESY, Lt Col C E R, CMB, DSO, AMR, has been appointed to command NZ training units and depots in Egypt, in place of Lt Col C R SPRAGG, WMR, who has been appointed officer commanding Desert Mounted Corps Rest Camp at Port Said.
REED, Captain M R, AMR, and Major C R E MACKESY, have been placed on the NZ roll on account of ill health contracted on active service. Major H S WHITEHORN succeeds the former as second in command of the regiment; and Captain W E CARTER is promoted major, vice Major Mackesy. Captain G S CHEESEMAN, with the rank of Major, succeeds Captain Carter.
STALLARD, Lieut F J W, MC, NZFA, is commanding a heavy trench mortar battery and now holds the rank of captain.

New Zealand Prisoners:
EVANS, Gunner C, Tank Corps, reported missing at the end of November;
BISHOP, Private J, Welsh Regt, of Auckland, posted missing in July 1916, now officially stated to have
died on that date.;
ELLIS, Lieut S H, Northumberland Fusiliers & RFC, taken prisoner in September 1916, is now in London
at Queen Alexandra’s Hospital for Officers, Milbank.;
OXLEY, Private Hubert, 2nd, Auckland, Regt, who was taken prisoner early last year, has been
repatriated. His right arm is badly hurt and will need a long course of treatment.;
KEMP, Private Frederick W, Auckland, who has been repatriated to England, has had a foot amputated.
He is in hospital at Bagthorpe.;
MOUSLEY, Lieut E O, RFA, of Auckland, who was with General Townshend in Mesopotamia and taken
prisoner in August 1916, is at Constantinople.
