Ross BRODIE of Rangitata and E T SUTHERLAND, Wanganui, both of the Canterbury Aviation School, passed their flying test on Saturday and will be drafted into the RFC. It is stated that Sutherland is the first Maori to enter the RFC.

Lt James OLIPHANT, s/o Peter OLIPHANT, awarded MC. Joined 3rd Auckland Inf. as a private when war was declared. When the Main Body left NZ he held the rank of Sgt. On arrival in Egypt he obtained a commission in the First King’s Own Scottish Borderers, 29th Division which was then on its way to G. In March 1916 he was transferred to France and since then has been with his regiment in France & Flanders. Solicitor by profession, resided at Te Awamutu.

The Distinguished Service Order has been awarded to Lt Commander Sanders, VC, of Auckland, who was recently killed when a British Submarine Mothership was destroyed.
